Gospel Sunday
We honor the Kumeyaay Nation, on whose ancestral lands we have made our home.
In the interactive part of the liturgy, the leader’s part is in regular text. The people’s response is in bold. All people are welcome to sing along with the songs where the lyrics are printed.
Holy Communion will be part of this service. Here at Gethsemane we practice open communion, meaning all who believe in the power of Jesus Christ to bring salvation are welcome to join in. In our Lutheran understanding, both sacraments—Baptism and Holy Communion—are best conducted among the gathered assembly. If you are present on our live-stream or the replay, you are present in our assembly. The body of Christ is not limited by place or time. Any bread and any wine or grape juice will do. If you are celebrating as a family or group, please feel free to break the bread into the right number of portions or have a separate piece for each person. Same with the cup. You may have one cup for all or each member gathered uses a separate cup. We believe the Christ is fully present in both Word and Sacrament, in both the bread and the wine/grape juice so if you only have one or the other, or even if you refrain from communion, you are not missing out on the grace of God. We understand both the Word and Sacraments as the means of grace. Remember it is not the type of bread or wine, nor is it the quantity, but it is your faith in taking the elements that is the window for the Holy Spirit to enter your life.
GATHERING
WELCOME
“Christ Is Risen! Alleluia!” ELW #382 vss 1, 4
1 Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Risen our victorious head!
Sing his praises! Alleluia!
Christ is risen from the dead!
Gratefully our hearts adore him
as his light once more appears;
bowing down in joy before him,
rising up from griefs and tears.
Refrain
Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Risen our victorious head!
Sing his praises! Alleluia!
Christ is risen from the dead!
4 Christ is risen! Henceforth never
death or hell shall us enthrall.
We are Christ’s, in him forever
we have triumphed over all.
All the doubting and dejection
of our trembling hearts have ceased;
hail the day of resurrection!
Let us rise and keep the feast. Refrain

“Ten Thousand Reasons” ACS #1097
Bless the Lord, O My Soul
Refrain
Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul;
worship his holy name. Sing like never before,
O my soul; I’ll worship your Holy name
1 The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning;
it’s time to sing your song again. Whatever may
pass, and whatever lies before me, let me be
singing when the evening comes.
2 You’re rich in love, and you’re slow to anger. Your
name is great, and your heart is kind. For all your
goodness, I will keep on singing – ten thousand
reasons for my heart to find.
- And on that day when my strength is failing, the
end draws near, and my time has come; still, my
soul will sing your praise unending – ten thousand
years and then forevermore!

“We Walk by Faith” ELW #635
1 We walk by faith and not by sight;
with gracious words draw near,
O Christ, who spoke as none e’er spoke:
“My peace be with you here.”
2 We may not touch your hands and side,
nor follow where you trod;
but in your promise we rejoice,
and cry, “My Lord and God!”
3 Help then, O Lord, our unbelief;
and may our faith abound
to call on you when you are near
and seek where you are found:
4 For you, O resurrected Lord,
are found in means divine:
beneath the water and the word,
beneath the bread and wine.
5 And when our life of faith is done,
in realms of clearer light
we may behold you as you are,
with full and endless sight.
Text: Henry Alford, 1810-1871, alt.

MESSAGE With Scripture: Acts 5:27-32 Pastor Karla
“I Love to Tell the Story” ELW #661
1 I love to tell the story
of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory,
of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story,
because I know it’s true;
it satisfies my longings
as nothing else would do.
Refrain
I love to tell the story;
’twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.
2 I love to tell the story:
how pleasant to repeat
what seems, each time I tell it,
more wonderfully sweet!
I love to tell the story,
for some have never heard
the message of salvation
from God’s own holy word. Refrain
3 I love to tell the story,
for those who know it best
seem hungering and thirsting
to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song,
I’ll sing the old, old story
that I have loved so long. Refrain

COMMUNION
All: In the night in which he was betrayed, Jesus took bread and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
One: And now, join me in praying as our Lord Jesus taught us…
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
Amen.

OUR DECLARATION OF MISSION
Alleluia! Christ is risen.
Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!
You are the body of Christ.
We are the body of Christ in the world!
So go in peace
To explore the faith
Live in peace
To express our faith to others
Share the peace
By inviting others to join us on this journey.
WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST IN THE WORLD, MADE NEW, SO LET’S GO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS!
Acts 5:27-32
Peter has been arrested for proclaiming the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection. His response to the charges of the high priest summarizes the early church’s proclamation of forgiveness of sin through repentance.
Psalm 118:14-29
You are my God, and I will exalt you. (Ps. 118:28)
Revelation 1:4-8
The book of Revelation recounts a mystical vision of the risen Christ experienced by a Christian prophet named John. Here he describes Christ as a timeless redeemer, the beginning, present, and end of all time.
John 20:19-31
The unprecedented events of the day of resurrection continue as the risen Jesus appears to his fearful disciples. A week later, after Thomas worships Jesus, Jesus pronounces that the blessings of the resurrection are also for those who “have not seen and yet believe.”
